Welcome to the website of St. Mary's Pipe Band Derrytrasna. Thanks for taking the time to have a look at the site. The band started a long time ago dating back to the early years of the 1900's and since then is still on the go today. From the start, the band has been stationed in a small building located in the heart of Derrytrasna on the Hall Rampart. The hall is used in many activitys today, e.g. The Band (of course), Dancing and for a small bar! A picture of this building can be seen below.

The Hall is situated just around 8 miles from the M1 Motorway in Northern Ireland. It is also not far from the ever growing town of Lurgan, located around 10 miles from the hall. The exact Location can be seen represented by an "A" in the red balloon on the map below:

Back in the time that the band first began, most of the members were all from the country and most of the band were related in some way or other, but this worked as the band has came through many holes when it comes to competiton time picking up the "World Pipe Band Champions" title of 1985.

 

The band is mainly small with in and around 15 pipers and not too many drummers. The band is typically compacted of mostly younger characters, which helps to suggest why we do not yet compete in competition at this stage! But after the band being reformed in February 2007, we have done well by participating in many local parades including St. Patrick's Day and Church Parades. 

 

The website was recently opened in 2008 and contains many areas of interest for readers about the band and includes many photos of the band and even many of the tunes the band plays.
